Description: BRONX NOW explores the growing community of Bronx based artists creating remarkable work outside of traditional spheres. The exhibit, which includes artists featured on BX200.com, is comprised of sculpture, photography, live performance, painting, graffiti, and works on paper, and is organized by the BX200 Bronx Visual Artist Directory’s curators Laura James and Eileen Walsh. BX200’s presentation of BRONX NOW marks a milestone in the group’s effort to expand interest in Bronx based artists and form a true citywide arts community that does not respect artificial borders.
The BX200 is an online artist community that launched in December of 2014. The group uses the virtual world as a tool to bring art to the real world. “Our goal is to be a bridge to Bronx Arts, providing a clean platform where art lovers and curators everywhere can find interesting, quality artwork,” says Ms. Walsh. “We are very happy to partner with Terra Firma restaurant and bar to bring this show to Bushwick and the greater New York art community. Bushwick has undeniably become a focal point in the New York art world, and we’re excited to present BRONX NOW to a large number of serious art enthusiasts, as well as a concentration of art professionals and gallerists who call the area home,” adds Ms. James.
Artists ranging from the deeply entrenched to emerging talents of all ages are included, in an attempt to show a range of disciplines and unique points of view. While ranging from deeply political, to narrative, joyful, historical or mathematical, the artists undeniably share a strong sense of personal message and true command of their mediums. The overarching story of BRONX NOW is the interplay of work from seemingly disparate origins together outlining the tenacious, unflinching, intrinsically motivated personality that the Bronx has come to be known for.
The exhibit also features a flat file of works on paper, prints, and small works from a select group that serves as a deeper portal into the work of Bronx artists.
